Ideas first. Always.
I’m Nathalie, a Sydney based Art Director, Motion Designer and Visual Storyteller who turns ideas into visual experiences that capture attention, create emotion and make stories memorable. My experience spans broadcast, entertainment, advertising, editorial, digital and financial services creating work across campaigns, brand experiences, motion, film, social and digital.
But the thread connecting everything I do is simple: the idea comes first.
I’m fascinated by how stories are constructed, how an image, a cut, a movement, typography, sound or an unexpected visual metaphor can completely change the way we experience an idea. That curiosity led me to complete a Master’s in Narrative and Live Cinema, exploring storytelling beyond traditional linear structures and how images, editing, rhythm and technology can create new narrative experiences. That thinking continues to influence how I approach creative work today.
I build visual worlds around ideas.
For me, art direction isn’t simply about making something look beautiful. It’s about finding the visual language that makes an idea distinctive, coherent and memorable. I work across concept development, art direction, design, motion, video, digital and social, connecting these disciplines to create experiences that feel like part of the same story.
I love starting with an idea and asking: What should this feel like? What world does it belong to? How should it move?
From there, I can shape the concept, establish the visual direction and take it through development and production, collaborating with designers, editors, filmmakers, photographers and other creative specialists to bring it to life. Sometimes the answer is a bold visual system. Sometimes it’s film or motion. Sometimes it’s an unexpected piece of typography, an edit or a single image that makes everything click.
Curiosity is part of the job.
Creative possibilities are expanding quickly, and I’m excited by what that means for visual narrative. I’m actively experimenting with generative AI and emerging creative technologies as part of my creative process, using them to explore, prototype visual directions, accelerate experimentation and imagine worlds that might otherwise be difficult to create. But technology isn’t the idea.
Creative judgement matters.
Storytelling matters.
Craft matters.
I see AI as another creative medium, one that can sit alongside design, cinematography, editing, animation, typography and photography to expand what’s possible. I’m curious by nature. And I’m still excited by that moment when an abstract thought becomes something people can see, hear, feel and remember.
That’s the work I want to make: strong ideas, distinctive visual worlds and beautifully crafted stories that connect with people.
